Transfer Tax Proposals Pending Voter Approval

For the communities listed below, state legislation has already been approved and signed into law that authorizes the local government to create a Community Preservation Fund. Before imposing a real estate transfer tax of up to 2 percent to support such fund, the tax increase proposal must be voted on locally via a local referendum. Per the legislation signed into law below, municipalities across Westchester and Putnam counties may create community preservation funds if passed by local voter referendum. Please be sure to contact your local government to find out if there are plans for a local referendum to support a community preservation fund.
