U.S. Commerce Department: Housing starts fall slightly in July for Northeast

Privately-owned housing starts in July were at a seasonally adjusted rate of 77,000 for the Northeast, down 1.3 percent from the June total of 78,000, according to data released by the U.S. Commerce Department.

Nationally, housing starts were at an annual rate of 746,000, a 1.1-percent decrease from the revised June total of 754,000.

Building permits for the Northeast in July increased 12.2 percent to 92,000, while nationally, building permits rose 6.8 percent to 812,000.
