HomeGain recently surveyed more than 400 homeowners and found that home sellers are more than twice as likely to sell their homes using a REALTOR than selling it on their own.
Homeowners were asked whether they used a REALTOR to sell their home or whether they attempted to sell it themselves. Seventy-nine percent said they used a REALTOR to sell their home and 21 percent said they tried to sell it on their own.
The survey revealed that 66 percent of homeowners that used a REALTOR were successful in selling their home versus the 30 percent of successful FSBOs (for sale by owner), reflecting a 120-percent higher closing rate for those home sellers using a REALTOR.
The survey also found:
- Eighty-five percent of homeowners who used a REALTOR to try to sell their home said they would use a REALTOR again for their real estate needs.
- Eighty-nine percent of homeowners who sold their home using a REALTOR said they would use a REALTOR again.
- Twenty-two percent of FSBOs eventually decided to enlist the aid of a REALTOR to help sell their home. Fifty-five percent of unsuccessful FSBO homeowners who enlisted the aid of a REALTOR were able to sell their home.
The survey was conducted between July 31 and August 10, 2012.
