RealtyTrac: New York State August 2012 total foreclosures increase; state rank improves

In its U.S. Foreclosure Market Report for August 2012, which reports default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions, RealtyTrac Inc. reported New York State had 3,274 total foreclosures, a 6.2-percent increase from July and a 55.76-percent increase from August 2011.

Despite the increases in total foreclosures, New York State’s rank increased from number 40 to number 42 of all 50 states for monthly total foreclosure filings. One in every 2,477 housing units in New York State received a foreclosure filing in August. 

Foreclosure filings were reported nationally on 193,508 U.S. properties in August, a slight increase of .82 percent from July, but a decrease of 15.16 percent from year-ago totals. Nationally, one in every 681 properties received a foreclosure filing.
