U.S. Commerce Department: New home sales in Northeast up more than 8 percent in August

Sales of new single-family homes in the Northeast in August were up 8.8 percent to a seasonally adjusted rate of 37,000, according to the U.S. Commerce Department. July’s revised annual rate was 34,000.

Nationally, new home sales were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 421,000 for August. This is 7.9 percent above the revised July rate of 390,000 and is 12.6 percent above the year-ago total of 374,000.
