NAR: Pending home sales continue to fall nationally, fall nearly 10 percent in Northeast

Pending home sales declined for the fourth consecutive month in September, as higher mortgage interest rates and higher home prices curbed buying power, according to the National Association of REALTORS (NAR).

The Pending Home Sales Index, a forward-looking indicator based on contract signings in September, fell 5.6 percent to 101.6. In the Northeast, the index dropped 9.6 percent to 76.7 in September and is 6.4 percent below a year ago.

Empire State housing market stays hot in January

New York State home sales remained strong to start the new year with 8,698 closed sales, falling just shy of the 2017 record for January, according to the annual housing market report released by the New York State Association of REALTORS.
