Builder confidence improves nationally, falls one point for Northeast in December

Builder confidence in the market for newly-built, single-family homes improved four points to 58 in December, according to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI). This gain reflected improvement in all three index components – current sales conditions, sales expectations and traffic of prospective buyers.

The HMI for the Northeast fell a single point to 38 in December.

Empire State housing market stays hot in January

New York State home sales remained strong to start the new year with 8,698 closed sales, falling just shy of the 2017 record for January, according to the annual housing market report released by the New York State Association of REALTORS.
