Mortgage applications increase for first week of January

In its Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending January 3, 2014, the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) reported the volume of mortgage loan applications increased 2.6 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis from one week earlier. This includes an adjustment to account for the New Year’s Day holiday. On an unadjusted basis, the index increased 45 percent compared with the previous week.

The Refinance Index also increased, rising 5 percent from the previous week, while the Purchase Index fell 1 percent.

Empire State housing market stays hot in January

New York State home sales remained strong to start the new year with 8,698 closed sales, falling just shy of the 2017 record for January, according to the annual housing market report released by the New York State Association of REALTORS.
