RealtyTrac: Sales volume up slightly for New York from November and year-ago levels

In its December and Year-End 2013 U.S. Residential & Foreclosure Sales Report, RealtyTrac Inc. reported that New York State residential properties sold at an estimated annualized pace of 143,824 in December, increasing 1 percent from November and rising 3 percent from December 2012.

The median sales price for New York was $345,550 in December, falling 1 percent from the previous month, while rising 21 percent from the same time last year. The median price of a distressed sale – in a foreclosure or bank-owned property – was $351,000, showing a 3-percent decrease from November and a 21-percent increase over December 2012.

Nationally, U.S. residential properties sold at an estimated annualized pace of 5,167,255 in December, level with November, but up 10 percent from the previous year. The national median sales price was $168,391, also level with November but up 2 percent from December 2012.

Empire State housing market stays hot in January
