Mortgage applications essentially flat in latest survey

In its Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending January 24, 2014, the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) reported that the volume of mortgage applications fell 0.2 percent from one week earlier. The results include an adjustment to account for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. On unadjusted basis, the index fell 9 percent compared with the previous week.

The Refinance Index also decreased, falling 2 percent, while the Purchase Index rose 2 percent.
