RealtyTrac: New York State February 2014 total foreclosures down in February, up from a year ago

In its U.S. Foreclosures Market Report for February 2014, which reports default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions, RealtyTrac Inc. reported New York State had 3,747 total foreclosures, a 2.09-percent decrease from January but an 8.11-percent increase from the same time last year. 

New York State ranks 30 out of all 50 states for monthly total foreclosure filings. One in every 2,162 housing units in New York State received a foreclosure filing in February.

Foreclosure filings were reported nationally on 112,498 U.S. properties in February. This is a decrease of 9.58 percent from January and is down 27.08 percent from February 2013. Nationally, one in every 1,170 housing units received a foreclosure filing.

New York State home sales remained strong to start the new year with 8,698 closed sales, falling just shy of the 2017 record for January, according to the annual housing market report released by the New York State Association of REALTORS.
