RealtyTrac: New York State April 2014 total foreclosures increase slightly from March, down from year-ago levels

In its U.S. Foreclosures Market Report for April 2014, which reports default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions, RealtyTrac Inc. reported that New York State had 3,784 total foreclosures, a 2.8-percent increase from March 2014 but a 3.98-percent decrease from the same time last year. 

New York State ranks 35 out of all 50 states for monthly total foreclosure filings. One in every 2,141 housing units in New York State received a foreclosure filing in April. 

Foreclosure filings were reported nationally on 115,830 U.S. properties in April. This is a decrease of 1.41 percent from March and is down 20 percent from April 2013. Nationally, one in every 1,137 housing units received a foreclosure filing.
