NAR: Pending home sales rise for Northeast, still below year-ago levels

Pending home sales improved for the second straight month in April, according to the National Association of REALTORS. Gains in the Midwest and Northeast offset declines in the West and South.

The Pending Home Sales Index, a forward-looking indicator based on contract signings in April, rose 0.4 percent to 97.8. In the Northeast, the index rose 0.6 percent to 79.3, 12 percent below a year ago.

Empire State housing market stays hot in January

New York State home sales remained strong to start the new year with 8,698 closed sales, falling just shy of the 2017 record for January, according to the annual housing market report released by the New York State Association of REALTORS.
