RealtyTrac: New York State May 2014 total foreclosures increase from monthly and year-ago levels

In its U.S. Foreclosures Market Report for May 2014, which reports default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions, RealtyTrac Inc. reported that New York State had 4,741 total foreclosures, a 25.29-percent increase from April 2014 and a 17.73-percent increase from the same time last year. 

New York State ranks 22 out of all 50 states for monthly total foreclosure filings. One in every 1,709 housing units in New York State received a foreclosure filing in May. 

Foreclosure filings were reported nationally on 109,824 U.S. properties in May. This is a decrease of 5.19 percent from April and is down 25.82 percent from May 2014. Nationally, one in every 1,119 housing units received a foreclosure filing.
