RealtyTrac: New York State August 2014 total foreclosures drop from monthly and year-ago levels

In its U.S. Foreclosure Market Report for August 2014, which reports default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions, RealtyTrac Inc. reported that New York State had 3,707 total foreclosures, a 17.53-percent decrease from July and a 12.51-percent drop from August 2013.

New York State ranks 31 out of all 50 states for monthly total foreclosure filings. One in every 2,186 housing units in New York State received a foreclosure filing in August. 

Foreclosure filings were reported nationally on 116,913 U.S. properties in August. This is 6.83 percent above July 2014 but is down 9.06 percent from the same time last year. Nationally, one in every 1,126 housing units received a foreclosure filing.
