U.S. Commerce Department: Northeast housing starts and building permits show gains in September

Privately-owned housing starts in September were at a seasonally adjusted rate of 120,000 for the Northeast, up 5.3 percent from August, according to data released by the U.S. Commerce Department.

Nationally, housing starts were at an annual rate of 1,017,000, 6.3 percent above the August total of 957,000.

Building permits for the Northeast also rose in September, increasing 12.3 percent to 119,000, while nationally, building permits rose 1.5 percent to 1,018,000.
