Mortgage applications fall over two week holiday period

In its Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending January 2, 2015, the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) reported that the volume of mortgage loan applications fell 9.1 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis from two weeks earlier. On an unadjusted basis, the index fell 37 percent compared with two weeks ago. These results include an adjustment to account for the New Year’s Day holiday, while the previous week’s results were adjusted for the Christmas holiday.

Both the Refinance Index and the Purchase Index also decreased, falling 12 percent and 5 percent from two weeks ago respectively.

Empire State housing market stays hot in January

New York State home sales remained strong to start the new year with 8,698 closed sales, falling just shy of the 2017 record for January, according to the annual housing market report released by the New York State Association of REALTORS.
