Mortgage applications increase more than 14 percent in weekly survey

In its Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending January 16, 2015, the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) reported that the volume of mortgage loan applications increased 14.2 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis from one week earlier. On an unadjusted basis, the index rose 17 percent. 

The Refinance Index also increased, rising 22 percent from the previous week, while the Purchase Index fell 3 percent from one week earlier.

Empire State housing market stays hot in January

New York State home sales remained strong to start the new year with 8,698 closed sales, falling just shy of the 2017 record for January, according to the annual housing market report released by the New York State Association of REALTORS.
