NAR: Pending home sales fall for Northeast in December

Despite interest rates being at their lowest level of 2014, pending home sales cooled in December but remained above year-over-year levels for the fourth consecutive month, according to the National Association of REALTORS (NAR).

The Pending Home Sales Index, a forward-looking indicator based on contract signings in December, decreased 3.7 percent to 100.7 from a slightly downwardly revised 104.6 in November. The Northeast experienced the largest decline, falling 7.5 percent to 82.1 in December. This is still 6.3 percent above a year ago.

Empire State housing market stays hot in January

New York State home sales remained strong to start the new year with 8,698 closed sales, falling just shy of the 2017 record for January, according to the annual housing market report released by the New York State Association of REALTORS.
