U.S. Commerce Department: Northeast housing starts rise 35 percent in June

Privately-owned housing starts in June rose 35.5 percent for the Northeast to 206,000, according to data released by the U.S. Commerce Department. May’s total was 152,000.
 
Nationally, housing starts were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,174,000, a 9.8-percent increase from the revised May total of 1,069,000.
 
Building permits for the Northeast also rose in June, increasing 2.8 percent to 296,000. Nationally, building permits rose 7.4 percent to 1,343,000.

Empire State housing market stays hot in January

New York State home sales remained strong to start the new year with 8,698 closed sales, falling just shy of the 2017 record for January, according to the annual housing market report released by the New York State Association of REALTORS.
