U.S. Commerce Department: Northeast housing starts and building permits fall in July

Privately-owned housing starts in July fell 27.5 percent for the Northeast to 161,000, according to data released by the U.S. Commerce Department. June’s total was 222,000.
Nationally, housing starts were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,206,000, a 0.2-percent increase from the revised June total of 1,204,000.
Building permits for the Northeast also fell in July, falling 60.2 percent to 113,000. Nationally, building permits fell 16.3 percent to 1,119,000.
