U.S. Commerce Department: Northeast housing starts fall in November, building permits remain level

Privately-owned housing starts in November fell 8.5 percent for the Northeast to 130,000, according to data released by the U.S. Commerce Department. October’s total was 142,000.
Nationally, housing starts were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,173,000, a 10.5-percent increase from the revised October total of 1,062,000 and 16.5 percent above the same time last year.
Building permits for the Northeast saw no change in November, remaining at 131,000. Nationally, building permits rose 11 percent to 1,289,000.
