RealtyTrac: Foreclosure filings in New York State rise in October

In its U.S. Foreclosure Market Report for October 2016, which reports default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions, RealtyTrac Inc. reported New York State ranked 23 out of all 50 states for foreclosure filings. New York had 5,516 total foreclosures in October, up 16.84 percent from September and up 10.25 percent since October 2015. One in every 1,478 housing units in New York State received a foreclosure filing. 
Nationally, foreclosure filings were reported on 105,481 U.S. properties in October, up 27.13 percent from the previous month but down 8.38 percent from the same time last year. One in every 1,258 U.S. housing units received a foreclosure filing.

Empire State housing market stays hot in January

New York State home sales remained strong to start the new year with 8,698 closed sales, falling just shy of the 2017 record for January, according to the annual housing market report released by the New York State Association of REALTORS.
