U.S. Commerce Department: New home sales fall in February for Northeast, rise nationally

Sales of new single-family homes in the Northeast in February fell 21.4 percent to 33,000, according to the U.S. Commerce Department. January’s revised annual rate was 42,000.

Nationally, new home sales were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 592,000, 6.1 percent above the revised January rate of 558,000. This is 12.8 percent above the February 2016 total of 525,000.

Empire State housing market stays hot in January

New York State home sales remained strong to start the new year with 8,698 closed sales, falling just shy of the 2017 record for January, according to the annual housing market report released by the New York State Association of REALTORS. The January statewide median sales price of $266,000 represented an increase of 8.4 percent from a year ago. Click here to read more.
