RealtyTrac: Foreclosure filings fall for New York State in second quarter and June 2013

In its U.S. Foreclosure Market Report for the second quarter of 2013, which reports default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions, RealtyTrac Inc. reported New York State ranked number 37 of all 50 states for quarterly total foreclosure filings. New York had 11,601 total foreclosure filings in the second quarter and 3,679 of them were in the month of June.

Foreclosure filings in New York State fell 1.43 percent from the previous quarter but increased 33.56 percent from the second quarter of 2012. June’s foreclosure filings were down 8.64 percent from May, but were up 37.17 percent from June of 2012. One in every 697 housing units in New York State received a foreclosure filing in the second quarter and one in every 2,197 received a foreclosure filing in June. 

Nationally, foreclosure filings were reported on 404,842 U.S. properties, down 8.43 percent from the previous quarter, and down more than 27 percent from the 2012 second quarter. One in every 324 U.S. housing units received a foreclosure filing during the second quarter. 

Foreclosure filings were reported nationally on 127,790 U.S. properties in June, a decrease of 13.69 percent from May and down 35.41 percent from June 2012. One in every 1,025 housing units received a foreclosure filing in June.

NYS home sales post second-highest May total

Homebuyer activity remained strong in May, driving the New York State housing market to the second-highest sales total for the month with 10,348 closings. May 2018 closed sales were 8.6 percent lower than the record of 11,322 set in May 2017.
