RealtyTrac: New York State August 2013 total foreclosures increase from July and year-ago levels

In its U.S. Foreclosures Market Report for August 2013, which reports default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions, RealtyTrac Inc. reported New York State had 4,237 total foreclosures, a 5.74-percent increase from July and a 29.41-percent increase from August 2012.

New York State ranks 32 out of all 50 states for monthly total foreclosure filings. One in every 1,907 housing units in New York State received a foreclosure filing in August. 

Foreclosure filings were reported nationally on 128,560 U.S. properties in August, a decrease of 1.78 percent from July and down 33.56 percent from August 2012. Nationally, one in every 1,019 housing units received a foreclosure filing.
