Tax Relief Commission final report targets property taxes

The state's Tax Relief Commission delivered its final report, calling for property tax relief for homeowners and businesses, to Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Dec. 9. The commission's recommendations focus on providing property tax relief for New York homeowners and businesses, and enhancing the state's economic competitiveness. 

Additional recommendations: call for incentives to local governments to reduce the cost of operations; lowering the corporate tax rate to its lowest level in 46 years; reducing the tax rate for upstate manufacturers; and updating the estate tax to bring New York in line with other states.

NYS home sales post second-highest May total

Homebuyer activity remained strong in May, driving the New York State housing market to the second-highest sales total for the month with 10,348 closings. May 2018 closed sales were 8.6 percent lower than the record of 11,322 set in May 2017. The median sales price growth trend continued, increasing by 11.5 percent compared to last May, ending the month at $262,000. Click here to read more.
