Mortgage applications fall while purchase applications rise in weekly survey

In its Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending March 21, 2014, the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) reported that the volume of mortgage loan applications fell 3.5 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis from one week earlier. On an unadjusted basis, the index fell 3 percent compared with the previous week.

The Refinance Index also decreased, falling 8 percent from the week prior, while the Purchase Index rose 3 percent.
