RealtyTrac: Foreclosure filings in New York State rise in second quarter, fall from previous month

In its U.S. Foreclosure Market Report for the second quarter of 2014, which reports default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions, RealtyTrac Inc. reported New York State ranked number 26 of all 50 states for quarterly total foreclosure filings. New York had 11,909 total foreclosure filings in the second quarter and 3,479 of them were in the month of June.

Foreclosure filings in New York State rose 6.08 percent from the previous quarter and increased 2.65 percent from the second quarter of 2013. June’s foreclosure filings were down 26.62 percent from May, and were down 5.44 percent from June of 2013. One in every 680 housing units in New York State received a foreclosure filing in the second quarter and one in every 2,329 received a foreclosure filing in June. 

Nationally, foreclosure filings were reported on 315,831 U.S. properties, down 7.56 percent from the previous quarter, and down more than 21 percent from the 2013 second quarter. One in every 417 U.S. housing units received a foreclosure filing during the second quarter. 

Foreclosure filings were reported nationally on 107,194 U.S. properties in June, a decrease of 2.39 percent from May and down 16.12 percent from June 2013. One in every 1,228 housing units received a foreclosure filing in June.

NYS home sales post second-highest May total

Homebuyer activity remained strong in May, driving the New York State housing market to the second-highest sales total for the month with 10,348 closings. May 2018 closed sales were 8.6 percent lower than the record of 11,322 set in May 2017.
