RealtyTrac: Foreclosure filings in New York State rise in third quarter and from previous month

In its U.S. Foreclosure Market Report for the third quarter 2014, which reports default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions, RealtyTrac Inc. reported New York State ranked number 27 out of all 50 states for quarterly total foreclosure filings. New York had 12,511 total foreclosure filings in the third quarter and 4,335 of them were in the month of September.

Foreclosure filings in New York State rose 5.06 percent from the previous quarter and increased 2.72 percent from the third quarter of 2014. September’s foreclosure filings were up 16.94 percent from August, and up 8.97 percent from September of 2014. One in every 648 housing units in New York State received a foreclosure filing in the third quarter and one in every 1,869 received a foreclosure filing in September.

Nationally, foreclosure filings were reported on 317,171 U.S. properties, up 0.42 percent from the previous quarter but down 16 percent from a year ago. One in every 415 U.S. housing units received a foreclosure filing during the third quarter.

Foreclosure filings were reported nationally on 106,866 U.S. properties in September, an 8.59-percent decrease from August and down 18.57 percent from September 2013. One in every 1,232 housing units received a foreclosure filing in September.
