RealtyTrac: Foreclosure filings in New York State continue to rise in third quarter and September 2015

In its U.S. Foreclosure Market Report for the third quarter of 2015, which reports default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions, RealtyTrac Inc. reported New York State ranked 18 of all 50 states for quarterly foreclosure filings. New York had 17,353 total foreclosure filings in the third quarter with 6,171 of them in the month of September.
Foreclosure filings in New York State rose 3.38 percent from the previous quarter and increased 38.7 percent from the third quarter of 2014. September’s foreclosure filings were up 9.07 percent from August, and were up 42.35 percent from September of 2014. One in every 468 housing units in New York State received a foreclosure filing in the third quarter and one in every 1,315 received a foreclosure filing in September.
Nationally, foreclosure filings were reported on 109,130 U.S. properties in September, down 0.39 percent from August, but up 2.12 percent from a year ago.
