RealtyTrac reports New York State has almost 20 percent fewer foreclosure filings in 2017 than previous year
In its year-end U.S. Foreclosure Market Report, which reports default notices, schedule auctions and bank repossessions, RealtyTrac Inc. reported New York State ranked 11 out of all 50 states for foreclosure filings. New York had 48,066 total foreclosure filings for 2017, down 19.08 percent from 2016. One in every 170 housing units in New York State received a foreclosure filing.
In December 2017, New York State had 4,222 total foreclosure filings, ranking 15 out of all 50 states. This is 2.25 percent below November 2017 and down 9.52 percent from December 2016. One in every 1,936 housing units in New York State received a foreclosure filing.
Nationally, foreclosure filings were reported on 676,535 properties in 2017 and 64,651 properties in December 2017.
